Lab-GrownEngagementRings

A lab-grown diamond engagement ring carries a real diamond, crystallized carbon that is chemically, physically, and optically identical to a mined stone, grown in a laboratory in weeks rather than pulled from the earth after a billion years. Because growing a diamond costs far less than mining one, the same budget buys a visibly bigger, brighter, better-graded center: most rings in this collection carry a D color, VVS clarity certified stone, grades that are rare and expensive in natural diamonds. Every ring here is shown complete, the setting and its independently certified lab-grown center priced together as one honest all-in number, across 186 designs in all seven of our center shapes, from solitaires and hidden halos to three-stone, pave, bezel, and channel-set styles, each made to order in your exact size in solid 10K, 14K, or 18K gold and platinum. Complete rings start at $739. Prefer a natural center instead? Our concierge will source and quote one for any design.

Frequently Asked

Lab-Grown Engagement Rings FAQ

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes, and this is worth stating without hedging: a lab-grown diamond is a diamond. It is pure crystallized carbon with the same hardness, the same refractive index, the same fire, and the same chemical composition as a stone mined from the earth. The Federal Trade Commission recognizes it as diamond, and the major grading laboratories grade it on the same 4C scale they use for natural stones. It is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia, not a coated simulant; those are different materials that merely try to look the part. A grown diamond does not try to look like a diamond. It is one, and it will test as one on any jeweler's pen tester, because the instrument is reading the material itself.

How are lab-grown diamonds made?

Two methods dominate. HPHT, high pressure and high temperature, recreates the crush of the deep earth around a diamond seed until carbon atoms stack onto it layer by layer. CVD, chemical vapor deposition, fills a chamber with carbon-rich gas, ignites it into a plasma, and lets carbon rain onto the seed one atomic layer at a time. Both produce rough diamond crystal in a matter of weeks, and from there the stone's journey is identical to a mined one: it is planned, cut, and polished by the same cutters chasing the same light performance, then submitted to an independent laboratory for grading. Nothing about the finished stone is synthetic in the everyday sense of the word. The origin story is shorter; the diamond is the same.

Can a jeweler tell my diamond is lab-grown?

Not by looking at it, and not with a loupe. The visual and physical properties are identical, so distinguishing a grown diamond from a mined one requires specialized laboratory equipment that reads fluorescence patterns and trace growth structure. This is why every certified lab-grown diamond carries a microscopic inscription on its girdle stating its certificate number and lab-grown origin: without it, even professionals could not sort one from the other. In practice this means your ring simply reads as what it is, a white, bright, well-cut diamond. Nobody at the dinner table is carrying spectroscopy gear.

How much less does a lab-grown engagement ring cost?

The center stone typically costs 60 to 80 percent less than a natural diamond of matching size and grade, and the saving grows with carat weight. That is the honest engine behind this collection's prices: complete rings from $739, and D color, VVS clarity centers as our standard rather than a splurge. One honest caveat belongs here too. Lab-grown prices have fallen as production has scaled, so a grown diamond is not a resale investment and we will never pitch it as one. Almost no engagement diamond is; natural stones also resell well below retail. You are buying the finger, not the vault: maximum beauty per dollar, worn every day for decades.

Do lab-grown diamonds fade, cloud, or wear differently?

No. This is the most persistent myth in the category, usually borrowed from experiences with cubic zirconia, which does haze and scratch because it is a softer, different material. A lab-grown diamond is a 10 on the Mohs scale, the hardest substance known, exactly as scratch-resistant and chemically inert as a mined diamond, because it is the same crystal. It will not yellow with age, fog in the shower, or dull under sunscreen any faster than a natural stone, which is to say the only maintenance either needs is an occasional wash in warm soapy water. Your grandchildren can wear it and the stone will not know the difference.

Are the diamonds certified?

Every center stone we set is graded by an independent laboratory, GCAL, IGI, or GIA, and the certificate travels with the ring. The certificate records the carat weight, the color and clarity grades, the cut assessment, and the girdle inscription number, so you can verify your exact stone against its paperwork. Most centers in this collection grade D color, the whitest grade on the scale, with VVS clarity, meaning inclusions so small that even an expert struggles to find them under tenfold magnification. In a natural diamond that combination commands a serious premium. In a grown diamond it is simply what we buy for you.

What does the all-in price include?

The finished ring in the photograph: the setting in your choice of solid 10K, 14K, or 18K gold or platinum, the certified lab-grown center diamond, any accent stones the design carries, the setting labor, and finishing to your exact ring size. We do not advertise a bare mounting and surprise you with the center at checkout, and we do not charge for the sizing. The number on the page is the number on the receipt. Complete rings run from $739 to about $3,800 as shown, and every design accepts a larger center, a different grade, or a fancy upgrade; pick the carat option on the product page or ask our concierge to quote something specific.

Can I get a natural diamond instead, and how long does my ring take?

Yes to natural: every design in the shop can be built around a mined center, and the product pages price the option alongside the lab-grown default so the difference is plain rather than hidden. Our concierge hand-selects natural stones to the same D color, VVS clarity standard whenever inventory allows. On timing, every ring is made to order rather than pulled from a shelf, which is how we set your center fresh and build the band to your exact size instead of stretching it later. Most rings ship within two to three weeks. If a proposal date is bearing down on you, tell us the date first and we will confirm feasibility before you pay a dollar.
