The halo is doing double duty, framing the sheen and taking the bumps a delicate feldspar cannot afford. Set it in white, blue sheen or peach on this page. Moonstone is soft at 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and cleaves easily, so we surround it and suggest removing the ring for rough chores. The price is the finished ring: the setting, the moonstone center you choose, and the labor to set and size it. Moonstone is an orthoclase feldspar whose soft glow, called adularescence, seems to float just under the surface. It sits at 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and cleaves easily, which makes it the most delicate stone we set, so we favour sheltering settings, hand select every one, and ask you to treat it gently. Our moonstone is natural and untreated, a genuine rarity we state plainly. Note that stones sold as Rainbow Moonstone are actually white labradorite, a different feldspar, so we do not list those here as moonstone. Questions
What is at the center? A real natural Oval moonstone, from 0.77 to 2.11 carat. You can choose a white, blue sheen or peach moonstone, whichever you choose on this page; all are the same species, just different body colours and sheens of natural moonstone. Choose the carat, colour and metal on this page.
What is that glow? It is called adularescence, a soft billowy sheen that seems to float inside the stone as it moves. It is the whole point of moonstone, and it is strongest in a smooth cabochon cut.
Is this an engagement ring or a fashion ring? This is a fashion ring, made for the right hand, a stack or a self purchase rather than a proposal. Wear it however you like.
Is the moonstone natural and treated? Every center is a natural, earth mined moonstone, and ours is untreated, which is genuinely uncommon and worth saying. We do not set imitation, opalite or glass here, and lab grown moonstone is not a market stone.
What about Rainbow Moonstone? Stones sold as Rainbow Moonstone are really white labradorite, a related but different feldspar. We do not label labradorite as moonstone, so you will not find it dressed up as one here.
How durable is a moonstone ring? Moonstone is soft for a gem, 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, and it cleaves easily, so it is the most delicate stone we set. We favour bezel, halo and cluster settings that shelter it, ask you to avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaning, and suggest removing the ring for rough work.
Does it come with a certificate? These calibrated moonstone ship without an individual lab report. We hand check every one for an even, lively sheen and a clean face, and can source a certified or larger stone on request.
