Bezel-Set Baguette Swiss Blue Topaz Stud Earrings (4x2 mm)

A straight baguette — a slim rectangle, step cut, no tapering — of Swiss blue topaz, wrapped in a thin bezel. At 4 x 2 mm this is deliberately small: a line of colour on the lobe rather than a stone competing for the room.

The bezel is what makes it work at this scale. A rim of metal gives the little rectangle a hard, finished edge, and there is no prong to snag or to interrupt the shape.

About this gemstone. The blue colour of topaz is created by treatment. Each stone here is genuine, mined topaz that has been irradiated and then heat-treated to develop its blue colour — this is how virtually all blue topaz on the market is produced. The colour is permanent and stable in normal wear, and will not fade with ordinary use. “Sky Blue”, “Swiss Blue” and “London Blue” are trade colour descriptions, not separate gem species or geographic origins.

Caring for topaz. Topaz has perfect cleavage in one direction and can chip or split from a sharp knock. Do not clean it in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner — warm soapy water and a soft brush only.
