Half-Bezel Oval Sky Blue Topaz Stud Earrings

Two crescent bands of metal cap the two ends of a 6 x 4 mm oval of Sky blue topaz and leave its long flanks bare. That is a half bezel: it armours the oval's two tips, which are the points that take the knocks, and it lets light into the stone from both sides in a way a full bezel cannot.

Sky blue is the palest of the three blue topaz colours — soft, cool and slightly green-leaning, closer to aquamarine than to navy. It is the easiest of the three to wear against most skin tones.

About this gemstone. The blue colour of topaz is created by treatment. Caring for topaz. Topaz has perfect cleavage in one direction and can chip or split from a sharp knock. Do not clean it in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner — warm soapy water and a soft brush only.
