Set low in a smooth channel, an oval citrine glows like a warm lantern between two walls of gold or platinum. Citrine is 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage plane, a good everyday hardness. The center is a genuine natural citrine, gently heated to its colour as the trade does, disclosed rather than hidden. The price is the finished ring: the setting, the citrine center you choose, and the labor to set and size it. Citrine is golden-to-Madeira quartz at 7 on the Mohs scale, so it wears well but still scratches and can chip on a hard knock, which is why we favour sheltering settings and hand select every stone. Most citrine, ours included, is gently heat treated from amethyst or smoky quartz to reach its colour, a standard and permanent step we disclose plainly rather than claim the stone is untreated.
