The channel guards the girdle of the stone, the part a faceted gem most needs sheltered in daily wear. You can choose the golden honey grade or the deeper Madeira orange on this page. The price is the finished ring: the setting, the citrine center you choose, and the labor to set and size it. Citrine is golden-to-Madeira quartz at 7 on the Mohs scale, so it wears well but still scratches and can chip on a hard knock, which is why we favour sheltering settings and hand select every stone. Most citrine, ours included, is gently heat treated from amethyst or smoky quartz to reach its colour, a standard and permanent step we disclose plainly rather than claim the stone is untreated. Is this an engagement ring or a fashion ring? This is a fashion ring, made for the right hand, a stack or a self purchase rather than a proposal. Wear it however you like.
Is the citrine natural? Yes. Every center is a natural, earth mined citrine, the golden-to-orange variety of quartz. We do not set imitation, glass or simulant here. A lab grown citrine exists in the trade, but we set the natural stone.
Is it treated? Almost all citrine on the market is gently heated from amethyst or smoky quartz to reach its golden-to-Madeira colour. The treatment is standard, permanent and does not fade, and we say so rather than imply the stone is untouched.
How durable is a citrine ring? Citrine is 7 on the Mohs scale, a good hardness for everyday jewellery, and unlike tanzanite or topaz it has no cleavage plane. It can still scratch or chip on a sharp knock, so we favour bezel, halo, cluster and channel settings that shelter the stone and suggest removing it for rough work.
Does it come with a certificate? These calibrated citrine ship without an individual lab report. We hand check every one for even colour and a clean face, and can source a certified or larger stone on request.
