Akoya is the pearl people mean by pearl, rounder and sharper in its shine than a freshwater, grown in saltwater off Japan. On a plain gold band that mirror luster is the entire point, so we kept the setting out of its way. A six-millimeter Akoya reads crisp and formal in a way freshwater rarely matches.
