Diamond Jewelry FAQ
Is your diamond jewelry natural or lab-grown?
Both. Every product page labels its diamonds as natural or lab-grown, and many product titles name the origin directly, such as a natural diamond bypass ring or a lab-grown diamond hoop earring. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, chemically and physically the same as mined diamonds; the difference is that they are grown in a laboratory instead of forming in the earth. Both rate 10 on the Mohs hardness scale and look the same once set. If you prefer one or the other, read the stone details before you add a piece to your cart. Our lab-grown diamond earrings page groups lab-grown studs, hoops and drops in one place.
What does ct tw mean on a diamond piece?
Ct tw stands for carat total weight. It is the combined weight of every diamond in the piece, not the weight of a single stone. A pair of stud earrings listed at 3/4 ct tw, for example, carries about 3/8 ct in each earring. A band listed at 1 ct tw spreads that weight across many smaller diamonds. That is why two pieces with the same ct tw can look very different: one large center stone reads bigger than the same weight split into pavé. When comparing, look at the number of stones and the size of the largest one as well as the total. Each product page lists the diamond weight for that design.
Which diamond piece should I buy first?
Start with what will be worn most. Diamond stud earrings go with everything, need no sizing and suit daily wear, which makes them an easy first diamond. A diamond necklace or pendant is the next simplest, since chain length is listed on each piece. A tennis bracelet is a bigger step, with a continuous line of diamonds that catches light with every movement. Rings need a ring size, so they suit buyers who know it already. For a proposal, go straight to the engagement rings. If you are buying for someone else, earrings and necklaces avoid sizing questions entirely.
Which metal should I choose for diamond jewelry?
Choose the metal the wearer already wears most, so new pieces sit naturally with old ones. White gold and platinum frame diamonds in a cool, bright tone that keeps colorless stones looking crisp. Yellow gold gives a warmer, traditional look, and rose gold adds a soft pink tone. Across this collection you can choose 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, or platinum, and a few designs are also offered in 10K white gold. 18K holds a higher share of pure gold than 14K, so yellow and rose gold look richer, while 14K contains more alloy. Options vary by piece, and the product page lists exactly which metals each design offers.
How do I get the right fit for rings, necklaces and earrings?
Fit depends on the piece. Rings are made to your ring size, which you choose when you order; our sizing guide will help you find it. Necklaces list their chain length on each piece, so compare that against a necklace you already own to see where it will sit. Earring backs and closures vary by design, and the product page shows what each pair uses, so check it if the wearer has a preference. Bracelet details are listed on each product page as well. If you are unsure about a measurement, our concierge team at concierge@diamondandsapphire.com can help before you place the order.
How much does diamond jewelry cost?
Diamond jewelry in this collection starts from $199. Every price is complete and all-in: it includes every diamond in the piece, so nothing is added for the stones at checkout. Price moves with total diamond weight, the size of the largest stone, the setting and the metal you choose. Petite studs and small accent pieces generally cost less than tennis bracelets, larger studs and engagement rings, which carry more diamond weight. The product page shows the price for each metal and size. Shipping is complimentary, by fully insured UPS Express with a signature required.
Does diamond jewelry come with a grading report?
The pieces in this collection are catalog pieces sold to a published specification. The product page lists the diamond weight and details for each design, but these pieces do not come with an individual grading report. If a report matters to you for an engagement ring, use Design Your Ring. There, you choose a loose diamond, natural or lab-grown, and then a setting, and each loose diamond comes with its own grading report: GIA for natural diamonds, and IGI, GCAL or GIA for lab-grown diamonds. The finished ring is made to your ring size. Questions about a specific piece can go to concierge@diamondandsapphire.com.
How long does diamond jewelry take to arrive?
Most pieces are made to order and ship in about 5 to 10 business days. Pieces marked ready to ship leave in 2 to 3 business days. Each product page shows its own timing, so check it before ordering if you are buying for a birthday, anniversary or holiday. Shipping is complimentary, fully insured UPS Express, and a signature is required at delivery, so send it to an address where someone can sign. Rings are made to the size you choose at checkout, which is one reason timing is listed piece by piece. If you need something by a specific date, contact concierge@diamondandsapphire.com before you order.
How do I care for diamond jewelry?
Diamond rates 10 on the Mohs scale, so the stones resist scratching better than any other gem we sell. Settings and metal need more care than the diamonds do. Take rings and bracelets off for heavy lifting, the gym and gardening, where a hard knock can bend a prong or a link. Clean pieces with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working gently under the stones where lotion collects. Store each piece separately, since diamonds can scratch softer gems and metal. Our free lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects, such as a prong, clasp or setting failing under normal wear; it does not cover loss, theft or accidental damage.
