Frequently Asked
Jewelry Gifts FAQ
How do I choose jewelry gifts for someone whose taste I'm unsure of?
The safest jewelry gifts are the ones she will wear every day without having to think about them: diamond studs, a fine gold chain, small hoops, or a single pearl. Look at what she already wears before you look at anything here. If her jewelry is mostly yellow gold, stay in yellow gold; if she wears one pair of earrings constantly, a similar shape in a better material is a gift she will reach for. When in doubt, choose small and well made over large and trend-led.
Which pieces are easiest to get right without knowing a size?
Earrings and necklaces, by a wide margin. Studs like the 1/2 ct Lab-Grown Diamond Stud Earrings or the Lab-Grown Diamond Bezel Studs need no sizing at all, and neither do huggies such as the Petite Diamond Hinged Huggies. Necklaces are nearly as forgiving; many offer a choice of chain length on the product page, and an adjustable chain removes the guesswork completely. Bracelets need a rough wrist size, and rings need an exact one, which is why we suggest them last for a surprise.
Can I return a gift if it isn't right?
Necklaces, earrings, and bracelets can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and return shipping is on us. Rings are different: every ring is made or sized to the ring size chosen at checkout and is final sale, so a ring such as the Birthstone Stackable Ring or the Oval Ruby Bezel Ring cannot be returned or exchanged. Engraved and personalized pieces are final sale too. If you are unsure of a ring size, our sizing guide explains how to find one discreetly.
What are good jewelry gifts for mom or a new mother?
Pieces that carry a name, a date, or a birth month tend to mean the most. The 14K Gold Birthstone Charm Necklace and the Petite Birthstone Necklace let you choose a stone for each child, and the Mama Bracelet says it plainly. Our engravable necklaces, including the Disc, Oval Disc, Bar, and Heart styles, can carry initials or a date; remember that once engraved, a piece is final sale. For more ideas, see our jewelry for mom.
Which birthstones can I choose?
Birthstone styles cover all twelve months, and each option names both the stone and whether it is natural or lab-grown. January is garnet, February amethyst, March aquamarine, and April either a laboratory-grown diamond or natural white sapphire. May is emerald, June alexandrite, and July ruby, each offered natural or lab-grown. August is peridot, September sapphire, October tourmaline or pink tourmaline, November citrine, and December blue zircon.
What about diamonds: natural or lab-grown?
Both are real diamonds, chemically and optically identical, and every product title or page says which you are buying. Lab-grown lets you give a larger or brighter stone for the same spend, which is why pieces like the 3/4 ct Round Lab-Grown Diamond Studs and the Lab-Grown Lightweight Diamond Line Bracelet are such popular gifts. Natural appeals to people who care that a stone formed in the earth, as in the Pear-Shaped Natural Diamond Stud Earrings.
Are there gifts that aren't diamonds?
Plenty. Pearls are a classic first piece of fine jewelry, from tiny Freshwater Pearl Stud Earrings to an Akoya Pearl Necklace. Plain gold carries a lot of the collection: herringbone, box, snake, and cable chains, Franco and curb bracelets, puffed and tube hoops, and ball studs. For color, look to the Heart Garnet Solitaire Necklace, the Mozambique Garnet Necklace, or the Oval Natural Peridot Studs.
How do I find a gift at the right price?
Every price you see is complete, with the center stone and any diamonds included, so there is no surprise at checkout. The collection spans small, easy pieces like pearl studs and fine chain bracelets up to diamond line bracelets and Akoya strands, so it helps to start with the type of piece and then compare within it. Sort the collection by price, and remember that many pieces let you trade up in metal or diamond weight on the product page.
Which metal is safest for jewelry gifts?
Match what she wears now. Most pieces come in 14K yellow gold, 14K white gold, and 14K rose gold, and some are also offered in 10K or 18K gold or in platinum. 14K is the everyday standard; 18K has a richer color and 10K is a little harder and more affordable. If you cannot tell, yellow gold is the most widely worn.
How quickly will a jewelry gift arrive?
Gifts ship free to any US address by fully insured UPS Ground, and orders of $500 or more move up to free UPS Express, signature required, which helps when a date is close. Many pieces are made to order, so check the ship time on each product page before you count on a date. Every piece carries a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
