A ring of pavé diamonds circles the pink sapphire, an old trick that makes the center read a size up from its carat weight. The rose color glows against the surrounding white, September's birthstone in a softer key. Being corundum, the sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs scale and wears well day after day. As with most pink sapphire, gentle heat has fixed the hue, and that change is stable and permanent. Choose 14K or 18K gold in white, yellow, or rose. Each ring is made to order.
