Details
The opal lies sideways here, east to west across the collarbone instead of hanging down it, bezel set at 7 by 5 mm and flanked by six small natural pink sapphires in milgrained gold wings. It is the quietest thing we build in opal, and it sits flat under a collar.
Opal is the birthstone of October and a traditional emblem of hope and imagination, prized for its shifting play-of-color. Set in solid 14K gold or platinum, and offered on a 1 mm cable chain finished at either 16 or 18 inches as two separate made pieces.
A gift note. An everyday piece for someone who does not want a pendant swinging. Horizontal settings photograph well and stay put, which makes this the easy first fine necklace.

Answers, before you ask
Your Questions
Why is the stone set sideways?
It is an east to west setting, meaning the oval runs across the neck rather than down it. The pendant measures 17.15 by 7.55 mm and sits flat, so it stays centred and does not spin the way a hanging drop can.
Are there diamonds in this one?
No. The accents are six natural pink sapphires, AA quality, round diamond-cut. Our supplier publishes no diamond weight for this piece and neither do we.
How do the two lengths work?
The 16 inch and 18 inch versions are separate finished necklaces with their own supplier codes, not one adjustable chain. Choose the length you want at checkout and it is made to that length.
How do I care for it?
Ethiopian (Welo) opal is hydrophane: it absorbs water, can turn temporarily transparent and lose its play-of-color while wet, and can craze as it dries. Never immerse it, and never clean it in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth only. Opal is a soft stone (Mohs 5.5 to 6.5) and is sensitive to knocks, heat and dry air. Put it on last and take it off first, store it away from harder stones, and keep it out of ultrasonic and steam cleaners.
