Lab-Grown Alexandrite Hexagon Necklace

$1,439.00
A six-sided plate of polished metal (14K gold or platinum) with a 5 mm round alexandrite set through the middle of it. The hexagon is the design: a chamfered bevel runs the whole perimeter, the vertices are softened rather than sharp, and there is enough unbroken metal on either side of the stone to read as a shape rather than a frame.

Details

A six-sided plate of polished metal (14K gold or platinum) with a 5 mm round alexandrite set through the middle of it. The hexagon is the design: a chamfered bevel runs the whole perimeter, the vertices are softened rather than sharp, and there is enough unbroken metal on either side of the stone to read as a shape rather than a frame.

At 10.7 by 9.3 mm it is the largest plain-metal pendant in this group of designs, and the only pendant here whose metal body has straight edges. Six prongs hold the stone down into the recess rather than lifting it above the plate.

It hangs on a cable chain in the metal you choose (14K gold or platinum), adjustable between 16 and 18 inches, so you set the drop where you want it.

For someone whose jewellery leans architectural - the person who likes a good chair and dislikes anything that dangles.

Alexandrite changes colour with the light it is under: bluish-green in daylight and cool office light, warmer purplish-red under incandescent lamps and candlelight. Supplier imagery is a rendered representation and shows the stone in one colour state, so pieces across this collection are shown in different states. The stone is doing what alexandrite does.

The alexandrite is lab-grown. It is the same species and chemistry as mined alexandrite, the colour-change variety of chrysoberyl, with the same hardness and the same colour-change behaviour, and it is disclosed as lab-grown here, on the product page and on the invoice.

Gemstone carat weights are nominal totals and are approximate; actual weight may vary slightly from the stated figure. Millimetre measurements are nominal and vary piece to piece within normal manufacturing tolerance.

Answers, before you ask

Your Questions

Q: Is the hexagon flat or domed?

A: Flat-faced, not domed, but not featureless: a chamfered bevel runs around the whole perimeter and the stone sits in a stepped recess, so the front catches light in two planes rather than one. Q: How large is the alexandrite? A: 5 mm round, set through the centre of a 10.7 by 9.3 mm hexagon. Q: Will it lie flat? A: Yes. The chain passes through the top of the plate rather than a swinging bail, so the hexagon stays square against the collarbone. Q: What chain comes with it? A: A 16 to 18 inch adjustable cable chain in your chosen metal (14K gold or platinum) with a spring ring clasp, included.
