Bow-Top Oval Sky Blue Topaz Drop Earrings

A 7 x 5 mm oval of Sky blue topaz hung in a four-prong basket below a polished bow. The bow is plain, with nothing set into it, so it frames the drop rather than competing with it.

Sky blue is the palest of the three blue topaz colours, cool and slightly green-leaning, and at this size it carries real colour without going dark.

About this gemstone. The blue colour of topaz is created by treatment. Each stone here is genuine, mined topaz that has been irradiated and then heat-treated to develop its blue colour — this is how virtually all blue topaz on the market is produced. The colour is permanent and stable in normal wear, and will not fade with ordinary use. “Sky Blue”, “Swiss Blue” and “London Blue” are trade colour descriptions, not separate gem species or geographic origins.

Caring for topaz. Topaz has perfect cleavage in one direction and can chip or split from a sharp knock. Do not clean it in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner — warm soapy water and a soft brush only.
