Push Present Gifts FAQ
What is a push present?
A push present is a gift from a partner, and sometimes from family, to thank a new mother and mark the birth of a baby. There is no fixed rule about what it should be, but jewelry is the most common choice because it lasts: a piece she can wear on the day she comes home and still wear when that baby graduates.
When do you give a push present?
Most partners give it in the hospital or in the first weeks at home; some wait for a quieter moment once the family has settled. Our pieces are made to order, so plan ahead: each product page shows its timing, and ordering a few weeks before the due date means the gift is waiting when you need it.
How much should you spend on a push present?
Spend what feels right for your family; there is no expected figure. Here, push present gifts start at $549 for laboratory-grown diamond studs, with birthstone, initial and engravable necklaces between about $650 and $1,000, and lab-grown diamond tennis bracelets from $2,119. Lab-grown diamonds give you a noticeably larger stone for the same budget.
What jewelry is practical with a newborn?
Babies grab anything that dangles or catches the light. Diamond studs, short pendants and slim bracelets with no loose parts are the safest choices for the first months; long drops, large hoops and high-set rings can wait. Rings also come off often for bathing, feeding and lotion, which is why many mothers prefer a necklace or studs at first.
Which birthstone should I choose?
Use the baby's birth month: January garnet, February amethyst, March aquamarine, April diamond, May emerald, June pearl or alexandrite, July ruby, August peridot, September sapphire, October opal or tourmaline, November citrine or topaz, and December blue zircon, tanzanite or blue topaz. The Petite Birthstone Necklace and Birthstone Charm Necklace offer every month, and each stone is labeled natural or lab-grown on the product page.
Can I add a name or date?
Yes, on the engravable pieces, such as the Engravable Heart Necklace and Engravable Disc Necklace. A first name, initials or a birth date all fit well. Please note that engraving is permanent: an engraved piece is made for you alone and is final sale, so it cannot be returned or exchanged.
Is a mother's ring a good push present?
It is a lovely one, with two practical notes. Fingers often change size during and after pregnancy, so it can help to wait a few weeks or choose a necklace first and add the ring later. And every ring we sell is made or sized to order, so all rings are final sale. Our stackable mother's rings are designed to grow with the family: one ring per child, stacked together.
Are the diamonds natural or lab-grown?
Both appear here, and every product page says which. Laboratory-grown diamonds are real diamonds grown above ground; they cost far less than natural diamonds of the same size, which is why the lab-grown studs and tennis bracelets are popular push presents.
How is it delivered?
Every order ships free and fully insured, and orders of $500 or more go by UPS Express with a signature on delivery, so a gift never sits on a doorstep. Pieces that are unworn, unengraved and in their original packaging (rings excepted) can be returned within 30 days; see shipping and returns.
What else can I give a new mom?
For a grandmother-to-be or a mother of grown children, see our jewelry for mom edit. For a full set of stackable mother's rings, visit mother's rings, and for every birth month in one place, birthstone jewelry.
