Details
A 3 mm round natural alexandrite sits up in a solitaire on a twisted rope shank - the same signature look as our showcase piece at a more everyday size. The rope detail adds texture and grip to the band while the stone stays the star, shifting from daylight green toward a warmer red under indoor light. Alexandrite is a chrysoberyl and a 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale with no cleavage, so it is tough for everyday wear - harder and more durable than most colored gems. Every center is a natural alexandrite, not a lab-grown (Chatham) alexandrite and not a simulant, and its color-change is a natural property of the stone, not the result of any treatment. Natural alexandrite is rare, so the stones are modest in size by nature; the color shift is strongest in larger stones and subtler in the smallest. Alexandrite is a June birthstone and the gemstone for a 45th and 55th wedding anniversary. Clean it with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush.

Quick answers

Stone: natural alexandrite, 3 mm, a color-change chrysoberyl.

Setting: a 3 mm round natural alexandrite in a solitaire setting on a twisted rope shank.

Metal: 14K White Gold / 14K Yellow Gold / 14K Rose Gold / Platinum, solid gold or platinum (not gold-plated). White gold is finished with rhodium for its bright white color; a jeweler can refresh it over time.

What is alexandrite's color-change? Alexandrite shifts color with the light - cool teal-green in daylight or fluorescent light, warming toward purplish-red under incandescent bulbs and candlelight. It is a natural optical property of the stone, not a treatment. The shift is strongest in larger stones and more subtle in small ones.

Is this a natural alexandrite? Yes. Every center is a natural alexandrite - not a lab-grown (Chatham-type) alexandrite and not a simulant. Natural alexandrite is rare, so the stones are modest in size by nature, and the color-change is a natural property that is never added by treatment.

Is alexandrite tough enough for everyday wear? Very - alexandrite is a chrysoberyl at 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale with no cleavage, harder and more durable than most colored gems. Clean it with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush.

Is alexandrite a birthstone? Alexandrite is a June birthstone and the gemstone for a 45th and 55th wedding anniversary.

Answers, before you ask

Your Questions

What is the stone?

A natural alexandrite, round, 3 mm across. It is the birthstone for June. Alexandrite is a chrysoberyl and rates 8.5 on the Mohs scale. Sizes are nominal; natural stones can vary slightly from the stated size.

How is it set?

It is a solitaire design. The stone is held by 4 prongs. Have the prongs checked once a year so the stone stays secure.

Which metals can I choose, and is white gold plated?

Choose 14K white, yellow or rose gold; or platinum. All the gold is solid 14K, never gold-plated. White gold is finished with rhodium, which a jeweler can refresh over time. Platinum is naturally white and polishes back to a high shine.

How big is it on the hand?

Across the top it is about 3.2 x 3.2 mm and the band is about 1.8 mm wide at the base, rising about 3.3 mm from the finger.

Which sizes are offered, and can it be resized?

US sizes 6 to 8, in quarter sizes. Our concierge can arrange resizing through our jeweler partner and will quote the cost before any work begins.

Can I return or exchange it?

Rings are final sale, as each is made or sized to your size; please confirm it first, and our concierge can help. If it arrives damaged, defective or not as ordered, tell us within 7 days of delivery and we'll repair, replace or refund it.

How do I care for alexandrite?

Durable for daily wear. Warm soapy water and a soft brush keep it bright. Gold resists tarnish; a soft cloth brings back the shine.

How do I find my ring size?

Our ring size guide walks you through measuring at home and matching a ring you already own. If you are between sizes or buying as a surprise, chat with our concierge or call 702-919-7814 before you order. Every ring is made to your size and is final sale, so it is worth a minute to be sure.
