Hexagon Peridot Necklace

A 5 mm round natural peridot - the largest stone in this collection - held on six prongs and recessed into a solid faceted hexagon plate. The geometry does the work: the plate's angled walls catch light on one side and hold shadow on the other, so the pendant reads architectural rather than ornamental.

Recessing the stone inside the plate is a quiet piece of engineering. The hexagon's raised walls stand proud of the prongs, so the setting takes the knocks the stone would otherwise take.

At 10.7 x 9.3 mm this is a piece with presence at the base of the throat, and the strongest colour in the collection - peridot's yellow-green has nowhere to hide against a plain polished field.

Natural peridot, untreated - peridot is one of the few gemstones that is essentially never enhanced. Peridot is 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale with distinct cleavage and is sensitive to thermal shock and acids. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush only - never an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. Store separately so harder stones cannot scratch it.
