Marquise Pink Tourmaline & Diamond Halo Necklace

A 6 by 3 mm marquise of natural pink tourmaline set east-west, held at its two points so the tips stay clear of metal, inside a fine diamond halo that traces the navette outline. The chain attaches at both ends of the halo, so the piece sits in line along the collarbone instead of hanging from a bail.

Five hundredths of a carat of natural diamonds does the work of a much larger stone here, because the halo follows a pointed outline instead of a circle: the eye reads the whole 9.5 mm silhouette as the jewel.
