Natural Amethyst Earrings, 1/5 ct Diamond Checkerboard Cushion

A 10 mm checkerboard-cut cushion amethyst sits in a softly scalloped frame, with sixteen natural diamonds set into the corners and a fine milgrain edge running the whole way round.

The checkerboard facets break the light into small squares across the top of the stone, so it reads lively rather than glassy at this size. This is a lighter, clearer lavender than the deep violet of our smaller amethyst studs, which is characteristic of the cut and the size, so expect a softer colour with more sparkle rather than a darker stone.

At 14.2 mm across it is the largest piece in the collection, and it still sits flat on the lobe on a friction post.

The amethyst is natural, the purple variety of quartz, and is heat-treated to even its colour, which is standard for this stone and permanent (AGTA enhancement code: Heating). Amethyst is light- and heat-sensitive: keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight, and clean it with warm soapy water and a soft brush rather than steam or an ultrasonic cleaner. The accent diamonds are natural, held to a representative G to H colour, with I1 clarity in the 14K golds and SI2 to SI3 in platinum.
