Most tourmaline reaching the trade is untreated, though some material is heated or irradiated to improve colour, a stable and permanent process, and included material is sometimes clarity-enhanced. No origin or laboratory report is implied. Tourmaline is brittle and heat sensitive, so clean it with warm soapy water and a soft brush, never an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.
