Oval Natural Peridot Stud Earrings (6x4 mm)

A faceted 6 x 4 mm oval peridot held by four small claws inside an oval frame. The frame runs about a millimetre and a half all the way round the face, so the stone reads larger on the ear than its measurements suggest; from the side the frame is pierced through, which keeps the weight down. Oval is the shape this collection was missing. It reads longer and softer on the ear than a round of the same weight, and the polished frame throws light back around the stone, which is what gives this pair its presence at a modest stone size. A gift that means something. An August birthday, a graduation, or the upgrade from a first pair of small studs to a stone with real presence. There are no diamond accents. A note on what you will see: peridot is strongly doubly refractive, so at this size the back facet edges can look doubled through the top of the stone. That is a normal characteristic of the species, not a flaw or an inclusion.

Caring for peridot. Peridot is Mohs 6.5–7 and is sensitive to sudden temperature change and to acids, including some household cleaners.
