Details
An oval natural peridot sits inside a full bezel, a smooth rub-over rim of gold that guards the stone all the way around. The frame reads clean and modern and keeps the yellow-green protected for everyday wear. Take it in white gold or platinum for a cool, crisp frame around the green, or in yellow or rose gold to warm the stone up and lean into its glow. Peridot is the August birthstone and the traditional gift for a 16th wedding anniversary, so it works as a birthday or milestone piece as much as an everyday one. Peridot is a 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale and is a little more delicate than sapphire or diamond, with a distinct cleavage direction and some sensitivity to hard knocks, sudden temperature changes and acids. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners, clean it gently with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, and store it apart from harder stones.

Quick answers

Stone: natural peridot, 6 x 4 mm.

Setting: an oval natural peridot in a full bezel.

Metal: 14K White Gold / 14K Yellow Gold / 14K Rose Gold / 10K White Gold / 10K Yellow Gold / Platinum, solid gold or platinum (not gold-plated). White gold is finished with rhodium for its bright white color; a jeweler can refresh it over time.

Is peridot tough enough for everyday wear? Peridot is a 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it is a little more delicate than sapphire or diamond. It has a distinct cleavage direction and is sensitive to hard knocks, sudden temperature changes and acids, so avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners and keep it from rough wear.

Is this a natural peridot? Yes, every center stone is a natural peridot, not lab-created and not imitation. Peridot is idiochromatic - its yellow-green color comes from iron within the stone itself - so it is essentially always untreated, one of the few gems that needs no routine enhancement. Clean it with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush.

Is peridot a birthstone? Peridot is the birthstone for August and the traditional gift for a 16th wedding anniversary.

Answers, before you ask

Your Questions

What is the stone?

A natural peridot, oval, 6 x 4 mm. Peridot is the gem variety of olivine and rates 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. Sizes are nominal; natural stones can vary slightly from the stated size.

How is it set?

It is a solitaire and bezel design. It sits in a bezel, a smooth rim of metal around the stone. A bezel protects the edge of the stone and snags less on knits.

Which metals can I choose, and is white gold plated?

Choose 14K white, yellow or rose gold; 10K white or yellow gold; or platinum. All the gold is solid 14K and 10K, never gold-plated. White gold is finished with rhodium, which a jeweler can refresh over time.

How big is it on the hand?

The top measures about 7.7 mm and the band is about 1.8 mm wide at the base, rising about 3.8 mm from the finger.

Which sizes are offered, and can it be resized?

US sizes 6 to 8, in quarter sizes. Choose your size on this page; each ring is made or sized to order. Our concierge can arrange resizing through our jeweler partner and will quote the cost before any work begins.

Can I return or exchange it?

Rings are final sale, as each is made or sized to your size; please confirm it first, and our concierge can help. If it arrives damaged, defective or not as ordered, tell us within 7 days of delivery and we'll repair, replace or refund it.

How do I care for peridot?

A softer gem: keep it away from household cleaners and acids, and skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners. Gold resists tarnish; a soft cloth brings back the shine.

How do I find my ring size?

Our ring size guide walks you through measuring at home and matching a ring you already own. If you are between sizes or buying as a surprise, chat with our concierge or call 702-919-7814 before you order. Every ring is made to your size and is final sale, so it is worth a minute to be sure.
