Pear Aquamarine Necklace, Diamond Halo

Set the pear on its side and the whole piece changes character. This 5 by 3 mm pear aquamarine lies east-west inside a bead-set diamond halo, and because the chain attaches at both ends of that halo the pendant sits in line along the collarbone instead of swinging from a bail.

One eighth of a carat of natural diamonds traces the pear outline, which is what gives a 10.7 mm pendant its reach. Three prongs hold the stone, one of them at the point, where a pear is most fragile and most worth protecting.
